Kanon Double Deck Box

So as I said, I am going to be doing product reviews here and there so you can find out about things in a bit more detail before you buy them instead of making an investment based off some stock image. Let's face it. Anime deck boxes (in this case a double deck box) are starting to become the norm when it comes to going to locals, regionals, or higher. Everyone wants to show off some kind of personal flare and creative tastes. This is primarily because the card gaming culture and the Otaku cultures have a tendency to bleed into each other, so it seems only natural to marry the two.

Now onto the actual review~

I decided to buy this deck case because as you may have guessed, my favorite anime is Kanon! I payed around $30 Canadian after shipping for this from someone on ebay. It is a very old deck box and is out of print, so I had no other choice as they are incredibly scarce and wouldn't have been able to locate one at 99.9% of hobby shops both locally and online. Normally, however, if you were to buy an anime double deck box around the time it is released, it would only run you about $15 dollars, and around $10 for a single size deck box.

Here is Ayu-chan in her signature area in the forest. The colors are spot on, and the printing job is very crisp and boasts a considerable amount of detail and sharpness. The actual deck box measures about 5" wide, 4" deep, and 3" high. It is quite a bit larger and bulkier than your typical Ultra-Pro cheapy deck box, but it is made with a much more rigid plastic. Do make sure to be careful when taking it places, so as to avoid squashing it. You payed good money for it after all!

More Ayu porn.

The plastic has this uniform diagonal line thing going on, but I believe that gives it more structural integrity. It looks clean and subtle, so it doesn't add very much noise to the artwork at all. You barely notice it because you'll be looking at the characters and not so much the material anyway.

On the left we have a chibi Nayuki-san just being all sleepy probably. It makes the sides look a little less bare, and gives it some more graphic energy.

Same deal over here; we have chibi Ayu-chan to light up the room (as if the big ass one on the cover wasn't enough).

On the bottom we see the recurring snow theme as well as the Kanon logo on the tip of the lid. The blue areas are translucent so you catch a glimpse of the treasures within.

The lid is fastened by a pair of twin velcros. Upon opening it up you are greeted by Sawatari Makoto and missy.

Each deck box comes with it's own top/dust cover who happen to be BFFs. Sayuri Kurata on the left and Mai Kawasumi on the right. The boxes themselves just slide in and out in a drawer-like fashion, the covers can simply be lifted in or out.

Hopefully you are all familiar with this company's work. They are Grandmasters at what they do.

So after pulling out the deck boxes, you get some screenshots of  Shiori Misaka and Nayuki Minase with their names printed on the sides in case you forget who they are :P

Rotating the two boxes around reveals some official artwork for Makoto-san and Nayuki-san.

Some official shots from the Visual Novel itself!

Lastly, on the 4th rotation we meet up with these two people. I've never seem them before.

Each of the deck boxes fit two full decks of sleeved Yu-Gi-Oh! or Cardfight Vanguard, unless you have an extra deck and side deck, then you could just barely accommodate two decks. You can also see from here that the dust covers can be placed back inside the boxes to make more room on your workspace.

For those wondering, these sleeves are of a character Kujyo Ria from the visual novel Twinkle Crusaders. I haven't actually played it before truth be told, but she was too moe to resist...

Twinkle Crusaders property of Pencil!

It can easily hold a sleeved 60-card Magic the Gathering deck and still leave a great deal of room for dice, tokens or your lunch.

Drew crap. Mulligan xD

...and that brings us to the end of the review. All in all, I feel that for $30 dollars it wasn't worth it soley based on the intrinsic value. However, because it's old and out of print, on top of the fact that I'm biased and it's my favorite Anime, I can come to peace with the price tag and tell myself that it was a justified investment.

For $15 dollars though, it's a wonderful product. You definitely feel like you're getting more than what you payed for. So go out there, and find your favorite character box and share it with the world!
